Charleston Harbor and Sail w/dad

  1. Great job!!! I just bought a neglected 1970 MacGregor 21 so I'm about to launch into the same project. Would love to hear about all your lessons learned along the way. Would you have done anything differently if you had to do it all over again?

  3. Fantastic work on the Venture 21, I just picked one up and I am very interested in the specs / how to build a rudder like the one you refurbished? Any plans or details would be much appreciated, also how does that rudder perform?

  4. Nice work, thanks for taking the time to document and share your project. You and your family are an inspiration for all of us about to tackle a MacGregor Venture 21 restoration.

  5. Hi, Nice Blog, old but nice. No idea if you will get this but here goes.... I have a 1971 Venture 21 and the drop keep moves around, meaning port and starboard while I am sailing. The bolt is fine the keel has been welded on the seam and put back in but there is so much play in it when sailing into a chop. Is this the same on your boat? Regards, Dave

I have a 1971 Venture that had a similar problem. I went through the motions and did all the inspections that I could, but it wasn't until I had the boat hauled out and the keel removed that I doubt the problem. The area around the keel bolt had worn down and there was enough play for the keel to wobble back and forth while sailing.
      Hope this helps, Nick.
