Teak Tiller Work

The Tiller looked nasty. See the before sanding pic.

I was able to strip off the black coating on the wood and get down to the god stuff with some 60 grit sand paper.

After a cleaning with West Marine's 'Teak Cleaner' a drying and a wipe with a damp cloth to remove dust and left over sanding debris, I hit it with some SPAR VARNISH. These babies are already starting to look great!

As the sun went down, I got a pic of the first coat on the eager wood. Summer, here we come.

Snowed on the boat

Tuesday was a day without boat work due to the 34 degree and snowy weather.
Hm...

Interior Plywood Replacement

Nobody wants a hole in their boat. I have one. (Not in the hull so don't freak out)

A jig saw took it out...some glue and fiber glass will put it back!

Had to actually remove the mast support to get it out and will mount the mast support on top of it when it's back in place.

Interior Sanding!

Since this weekend was chilly and windy and the interior of the boat is super ugly I decided to get started with the interior.
All weekend in tiny crevasses, on my back, on my stomach, vacuuming, changing sand paper and emptying my dust filter. Although sanding was a necessary step it was not glamorous and I am still itchy from the Fiberglass particles. Freaking itchy!

After taking 2 showers both nights, I am still pulling paint chips out of my hair and had a chip under my eyelid today. (Thanks to my quality goggles)

Painting with Polyurethane 2 weeks away

Does anyone have a back scratcher?

The Tiller part II

The progress made by cleaning was minimal at best.
I spent about 45 minutes scrubbing and did see some serious dirt come off though.
I will find some Oxalic Acid or some Teak specific cleaner this week.

Obviously the bottom piece is the piece I cleaned. See the slight difference. I want this teak to be as beautiful as summer so more cleaning is in order.

The Tiller...

It is about 35 degrees outside and windy, but I'm anxious to get started on something. The tiller is portable so I brought it inside and will clean the Teak with a little bit of detergent and a slight bit of bleach.
